Acknowledging our need for guidance

Moses, the servant of God, cried: “Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass: Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God.” (Deuteronomy 32:1-3)

Such is also my cry as I publish the name of the LORD, and write or “drop” His truths on here.

May all the earth be filled with knowledge of God, be set free by His truth; for only the truth sets free. Therefore, let us pray and trust the Spirit of truth to guide us into it.

The importance of investigating diligently

Others said, “This is the Christ.” But some said, “Will the Christ come out of Galilee? Has the Scripture not said that the Christ comes from the seed of David, out of the town of Bethlehem where David was?” ( John 7:41-42 ) ——————— It was prophesied in the Scriptures that the Christ should be born in Bethlehem, of the royal line of David. These Jews, therefore, thought that Jesus could not be the Christ, thinking that He was born in Galilee (He was only brought up there) and they did not know that He was of David's family. But had they investigated diligently, they would have found that the reports about Him were false, and that He really had been born in Bethlehem, and was a descendant of David. They were much to blame for such remissness. Oh, how many are now in error, because of their own negligence! They credulously believe the rumors they hear against Christ's ministers; they readily believe the objections that unbelievers make against the Bible; and they never inquire in...

The Lord expects much from those to whom He had given much.

Our Lord once noticed from afar a fig-tree full of leaves. Going over to find figs, He found none, and cursed it for its barrenness. There is a deep meaning in this action. He did it to teach a significant lesson. The leaves of a tree drink in air and moisture, and promote its strength and fruitfulness. The sacred privileges bestowed on a person may be compared to leaves. The Lord has a right to expect much from those to whom He had given much. And when He comes looking for fruit, and finds none — no repentance, no faith, no love, no holiness — a curse may be expected from Him. Let us continue to bear good fruit to the glory and praise of God.

Keep your treasure in Heaven.

Some people allow their thoughts and desires to be chained down to earth by business duties or the worldly worries of everyday life. They are absorbed in these as if there were nothing higher or better. The sweet duty of prayer is neglected. They do not meditate on the great truths of God's holy word. Even the Lord's day makes only little difference; there is no real seeking after God's kingdom and righteousness. But you must not give up on your brightest and highest privilege. Do not cast off the joys which might in all other respects mix with your most ordinary duties. “Don’t pile up treasures on earth, where moth and rust can spoil them and thieves can break in and steal. But keep your treasure in Heaven where there is neither moth nor rust to spoil it and nobody can break in and steal.
