All of the disciples claimed to love Christ. But did they all really love Him? A hypocrite was among them, of whom it is written, “Not that he cared for the poor” ( John 12:6 ). And are there not some people today who call Him, “Lord, Lord,” but who do not really love Him, having failed to love His poor brethren suffering on earth? They should have taken more pleasure in helping them, than in indulging in their own appetites, beautifying their bodies, accumulating great wealth, and giving luxurious entertainments. Those who truly love Christ are kind to the hungry, to the stranger, and to the prisoner, for His sake.

Psalms 110:1 NKJV The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” ——————— Part of this prophecy has already been fulfilled. Christ is now sitting at the right hand of God; but He has not yet come to put His enemies under His feet. They who once rejected Him, O with what dismay shall they behold the Son of God when He appears in His glory! “See, He is coming in the clouds and every eye shall see Him, even those who pierced Him, and his coming will mean bitter sorrow to every tribe upon the earth. So let it be!” ( Revelation 1:7 ) Bitter sorrow to everyone who rejected Him! It was not only the Jews who said, “We do not want this man to reign over us;” it was not only the Romans who pierced Him with a spear; there are many in Christian lands who have crucified Him all over again and have trampled Him underfoot. All God's children desire to be with their Father, and their Father desires to have all His children with Him. Sin, like a cruel tyrant, has scattered His family abroad. Death divides them from each other, and even divides their souls from their bodies. But Christ's death on the cross has taken away the guilt of sin, and has destroyed the power of death. At the sound of the last trumpet, the bodies that lay rotting in the graves, or forgotten in the depths of the sea, shall be glorified and united to the happy spirits of the righteous ones. Those who were born in different ages of the world, or who were separated by wide oceans, shall see each other for the first time in their Father's everlasting home.

In John 7:14-24 , Jesus was teaching publicly in the temple. His enemies were so offended with His words, that they sent temple guards to arrest Him. It was then that the Savior gave them this dreadful warning: “I am only with you for a short time. ... You will look for Me, but you will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come.” (vv. 33-34 ) This did happen to them when Jerusalem was taken, and they vainly sought for the promised Messiah to deliver them, but never did find Him. The impenitent unbeliever shall also experience this. Dying unrepentant, he will seek Christ but not find Him, and vainly desire to be where He is. Such did happen to the rich man, when he looked up, in torment, and saw Lazarus a long way off, and was told that there was a great chasm fixed between them, which none could pass.
